Blackletter, Skulls and Wolves: The Art Behind Our Designs

· Style & Merch

Our designs look the way our music sounds: dark, heavy and a little mythic. Here's what you'll see on High on Fire Merch, and how to read it.

What is the blackletter logo?

The "high on fire" lettering in our designs is blackletter, the old gothic script with sharp, broken strokes. On some designs it's crisp and clean; on others it's worn and distressed, like a flyer that's been on a club wall for years. It's the first thing you'll spot on most of our merch.

What are the skulls, wolves and snakes about?

Our artwork is hand-inked in an engraved style, full of fine lines and hatching. You'll find:

  • Horned skulls, one of them under a feathered headdress.
  • A howling wolf standing on a tangle of roots.
  • A skull crowned with snakes, the same picture that marks this store.

We don't explain every picture. They're there to look heavy, and they do.

What colours do the designs use?

Mostly ink you'd find in an old engraving:

  • Antique gold for the skull-and-horns logo design.
  • Oxblood red and slate grey for the wolf on its roots.
  • Bone white and black for the line work.

Every design comes on black and on white garments, so pick the one that shows the art the way you like it.

Front, back or both?

Some designs sit on the front only; others carry a back design too. Each product page lists what's on the front and what's on the back, so you know before you order.

Where can I see them all?

Every design is in the shop, on tees, long sleeves, crewnecks and hoodies, with kids' and youth sizes. Shop High on Fire Merch and find the picture that's yours.
