Who We Are: High on Fire, Heavy Metal from Oakland
We're High on Fire, a heavy metal band from Oakland, California. Matt Pike started the band in 1998, and he still plays guitar and sings in it today. If you're new here, this is the short version of who we are and what you'll find in our store.
Who is High on Fire?
High on Fire is Matt Pike on guitar and vocals and Jeff Matz on bass, with a drummer behind us who has changed over the years. Before High on Fire, Matt played guitar in Sleep. Oakland is where it started, and it's still home.
What does High on Fire sound like?
Loud, heavy and fast when it needs to be. Our sound sits where stoner metal, sludge metal and thrash metal meet: big, slow riffs that turn into a gallop, and back again. That mix runs through every record we've made.
How many albums have we made?
Nine so far, from The Art of Self Defense in 2000 to Cometh the Storm in 2024. In between came Blessed Black Wings, Snakes for the Divine, De Vermis Mysteriis, Luminiferous and Electric Messiah, whose title track won the Grammy for Best Metal Performance in 2019.
